The primary goal of the Children’s Interview Center is to reduce the trauma suffered by child victims of sexual and other abuse by reducing the number of times they have to tell their stories to authorities. The Center also helps prevent further abuse by improving evidence collection against perpetrators, thereby increasing their rate of prosecution, and by linking children and their families to needed services through an onsite Child and Family Victim Advocate. Measurable outcomes parallel these goals. The CIC serves Contra Costa County children 13 years of age and younger who allege sexual abuse. The CIC is a member of the National Children’s Alliance, the accrediting body for Child Advocacy Centers nationwide.
PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Reporting to the CIC Program Director, the Forensic Interviewer is responsible for conducting forensic interviews with children who are possible victims of abuse. The Forensic Interviewer is part of a collaborative team that works together to insure that the child victim is interviewed in an environment that puts his/her comfort first, with the goal being to reduce the number of interviews, lessen the trauma of repeating the story, and to increase prosecution.
SPECIFIC DUTIES INCLUDE:
- Conduct sensitive and thorough forensic interviews with children who are possible victims of abuse, with an emphasis on sexual abuse.
- Orient children to CIC facility
- Consult with team members before, during and after interviews
- Coordinate interview strategies and techniques with team members
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings
- Testify when subpoenaed
- Attend peer review meetings
- Complete case documentation following an interview
- Attend forensic interview trainings
- Provide community training
- Other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS:
- Experience in child abuse investigations

The Children’s Interview Center (CIC) is a collaborative project among the Contra Costa County Employment and Human Services Department, Health Services Department, District Attorney’s office, county law enforcement agencies represented by the Contra Costa County Police Chief’s Association, Sheriff’s Department and lead by Community Violence Solutions. The Children’s Interview Center is a place where children through age 17 are provided child friendly forensic interviews (and medical exams – infrequently) when there is an allegation of child sexual abuse.
PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Reporting to the CIC Director, the Administrative Assistant is responsible for reception, greeting clients, scheduling interviews, front office upkeep, communicating with partner agencies and data entry. This position will support the staff and community partners in maintaining a compassionate and comfortable setting for child clients and their non-offending care-givers to receive services.
SPECIFIC DUTIES INCLUDE:
- Answering office phone calls and routing calls
- Providing office coverage; meeting and greeting clients and community partners
- General supervision and monitoring of wait areas including child wait area/playroom
- Opening and distributing mail and distributing faxes
- Assisting with Intake process by entering appropriate information into the database and generating Intake Forms for client folders
- Entering necessary data to update or complete follow up information for the case tracking system and keeping electronic records in accordance with grant funding sources
- Establishing files according to existing procedures

REQUIREMENTS:

TITLE: Volunteer Prevention Educator
STATUS: Part time volunteer positions
HOURS: 3-5 hours per week; 6 month minimum commitment

REPORTS TO: Coordinator of Prevention & Outreach
Community Violence Solutions reaches approximately 10,000 young people each year in Contra Costa and Marin Counties through presentations at elementary, middle and high schools and on college campuses. Beginning in 09-10 fiscal year CVS will be offering these school-based services to younger populations. Presentations are designed to promote healthy relationships especially among young males and females and provide important information about sexual assault and dating violence and are interactive in nature. CVS’ Prevention Services also offer practical skill-building workshops to girls after school and on weekends focusing on assertiveness training and self-defense techniques; and a program exclusively for male students where participants examine the influence of media and culture on male sexual violence against women, terms and definitions of sexual assault, how rape impacts men and boys, intervention strategies for stopping sexual assault, and how to be an ally to women and girls. Workshops for adults on sexual harassment, personal safety/cyber-safety and self-defense are also presented to community organizations.
PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The Volunteer Prevention Educator will assist Prevention Educators to provide after-school prevention services to schools and community organizations.
SPECIFIC DUTIES INCLUDE:
• In tandem with Prevention Educators, provide school-based workshops for youth (at an age appropriate level) and their caregivers in regard to violence free relationships and teens on multiple topics including date rape prevention, sexual assault and sexual harassment prevention, and community workshops to adults on rape prevention.
• Conduct outreach to local schools and organizations for prevention education activities.
• Document all service delivery of prevention programs and record volunteer hours.
• Take state certified 50+ hour crisis intervention training in addition to prevention education training as needed.

POSITION: Victim Services Program Manager

Community Violence Solutions (CVS) works in partnership with the community to end sexual assault and family violence through prevention and outreach services, crisis intervention services and treatment. CVS’ programs include the Rape Crisis Center (RCC), the Anti-Human Trafficking Program, the Prevention and Outreach Program, the Children’s Interview Center and the Child Welfare Redesign Program (Path II Differential Response.)
PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Program Manager is responsible for the direct supervision of all Rape Crisis Center staff in Marin and Contra Costa Counties. The Manager is also responsible for assisting the Executive Director with program administrative operations, specifically client outreach and intake, support operations of the drop-in centers, client records, data and file maintenance. Additionally, the Program Manager is responsible for attending community meetings to further develop referring and collaborating relationships. This position supports the management of the program in mentoring Victim Advocate personnel, supervises staff.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Supervision: Supervise staff located in multi-office locations; conduct monthly in-service and case review supervision meeting with staff, volunteers, trainees and interns providing crisis intervention services; coordinate pre-service training. Conduct staff evaluation and assessment.
Management: Manage one or more office site locations; manage the availability of 24-hour crisis intervention services; develop and manage monthly crisis line schedule for all intervention services. Oversee the delivery of all department related grant objectives/contract agreements; review and complete client intake forms and data obtained through crisis intervention services; update forms as necessary in coordination with IT staff; develop grant/program reports, measure the effective by tracking performance and outcome deliverables and outcome of deliverables and submit reports on a regular basis to funders. Assist ED in the development of proposals and completion of reports for relevant grants. Keep abreast of training and education requirements/certification for crisis intervention counselors. Maintain basic understanding of material in order to train others or step in to train as appropriate.
Sexual Assault Response Team: Assist in strategic planning in coordination with multiple collaborating agencies. Participate in regional or statewide task forces as necessary for program implementation. Insure MOUs and operational agreements are in place with medical centers, law enforcement agencies, district attorney, victim witness, crime lab, etc. Attend SART Task Force meetings and other meetings as needed for planning and collaboration. Facilitate decision making and conflict resolution between participating agencies and organizations.
Other: Leadership role in various interpersonal violence/victimization eradication projects such as the Elder Abuse Prevention Project; Law Enforcement Victim Response Trainings; Human Trafficking Intervention Project; Domestic Violence Intervention partnership projects; Campus Rape Prevention Projects; Sexual Assault Awareness Month projects. Assist the ED in identification of appropriate revenue generating training activities – consistent with mission.
Inter-Agency/Community Relations: Serve as liaison between RCC and agencies/professionals serving victims/survivors; maintain contact with media for recruitment of volunteers and advertisement of crisis intervention services to the public; maintain contact with colleges, universities and other community resources for volunteer recruitment.
REQUIREMENTS:
• BA or MA degree in psychology, counseling, or an equivalent combination of education experience or an equivalent combination of education experience;
• Demonstrated experience (three to five years) in a responsible management position, preferably a non-profit organization or government agency;
• Four or more years experience in administration, staff and volunteer supervision;
• Three or more years experience in crisis counseling;
• Ability to relate to and communicate with victims of sexual assault and diverse public agencies and personnel;
• Knowledge of and experience with the criminal justice system and understanding of issues related to child sexual abuse and adult sexual assault;
• Experience/ability to work in diverse communities;
• Demonstrated experience (3 years) in establishing and accomplishing program goals and objectives, grants management, report writing, and data tracking. Good writing skills. Able to meet deadlines;

PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The Back-up Crisis Line Counselor will provide coverage to the Contra Costa and Marin Crisis Lines to ensure the provision of intervention services for sexual assault victims in Contra Costa and Marin County. These services include crisis intervention on the phone as well as in-person accompaniment at police interviews and medical exams.
SPECIFIC DUTIES INCLUDE:
• Must be willing to be available for the full weekend or weekday shift coverage.
• Provide coverage when counselor on call cannot be located.
• Take calls from clients, accompaniment as necessary (outcalls), documentation of services provided, attendance at monthly in-services, and completion of all appropriate paperwork.
• Must respond within a 5-minute time frame to answering service and 40-minute time frame to evidence collection sites.

Community Violence Solutions specializes in providing counseling and advocacy for people whose lives have been affected by sexual assault and commercial sexual exploitation. Services are available to child, adolescent and adult survivors of recent or past rape, incest, molestation, commercial sexual exploitation or other forms of trauma, as well as to friends or family members of sexual assault survivors. In a compassionate and non-judgmental setting, clients are helped to heal and to gain the self-confidence and understanding to move forward with their lives. Services include: individual and family therapy, specialized support groups, parenting education and case management.
This long standing organization has the unique position of a 33 year history of living within the same agency as three regional Rape Crisis Centers and Contra Costa County’s Children’s Interview Center – all specializing in acute and chronic sexual assault and sexual abuse response.
PURPOSE OF POSITION
Reporting to the Clinical Supervisor, the Intern Therapist is responsible for provision of long and short term individual, family and group treatment services to child, adolescent, and adult sexual assault victims and commercial sexual exploitation, their families and significant others with an emphasis on child and adolescent therapy. Some evening or weekend hours are required.

• Provide information and referrals, collaborate with schools and community agencies and professionals and provide court testimony and crisis intervention as needed.
• Complete CVS’s 40-hour pre-service training as soon as possible following hiring. Maintain community and public relations contacts in order to promote referrals to CVS's programs, maintain caseloads, and contribute to the overall success of CVS programming.
• Maintain accurate, timely records of hours worked and services provided to clients. Adhere to documentation and maintenance of records according to Community Violence Solutions and funding source standards.
• Maintain a professional approach toward evaluation and record keeping, respecting its clinical importance and utility and adhering strictly to funding source regulations for maintenance of all charts.
• Participate in weekly individual supervision and biweekly case conference and didactic training.
REQUIREMENTS/ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
• Graduate degree (MS, MA) in counseling or related field and working towards license as MFT, LPCC or LCSW.
• Demonstrated experience in delivery of clinical services. Sexual abuse and trauma experience preferred.
• Knowledge of and experience interfacing with multi-disciplinary collaborators such as law enforcement, Child Protective Services, medical, and school personnel.
• Successful background check and clearance with the Department of Justice.
• Demonstrated ability and sensitivity to diversity and cultural issues involved in working with clients from a wide range of ethnicities, socioeconomic status, gender, sexual orientation, age, and ability.
• Strong organizational skills, including ability to organize and complete clinical and case management records.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills with abilities to work independently and as a team.
